Excited to Present the Newest MSU Hats

We’ve got three brand-new Michigan State hat concepts in the works, and I wanted to share what we’re building, why we built them, and where they’re at in the process.

We asked the Spartan base what they actually want to wear, listened closely, and took those ideas seriously. From there, I sketched, scrapped, tweaked, and played with a bunch of different styles. These three are the ones that made the cut.

All three designs have already been submitted to MSU licensing and approved, which is a big step. Now we move into the part that really matters: making sure the hats are actually great in real life.

What Happens Next

Before anything goes into full production, we’re ordering samples of each hat. Why? Because we want to inspect everything:

• Fit

• Comfort

• Materials

• Embroidery quality

• Color accuracy

• How it feels on your head after wearing it for a while

If anything feels off, we fix it before moving forward.

Assuming the samples check out, we’ll move into full production. Our factory specializes in hats and in my opinion, after a lot of research and trial and error, they’re the best in the world at what they do.

Production takes about 60 days, and once we receive them, they’ll be ready to sell.

Now let’s talk about the hats themselves.

Hat #1: BRESLIN | The Michigan State Basketball Hat

This one is built specifically for Spartan basketball fans.

• Basketball Sparty embroidered on the front

• Our first ever grey and green colorway

• Black underbill featuring a custom March Madness bracket pattern we created

  • A nod to MSU’s long history of tournament runs

• “Defend. Rebound. Run.” printed on the seam tape and inside the hat

• Adjustable snap closure

• Laser-cut fabric back panels

  • Not cheap plastic

  • More comfortable

  • More breathable

This hat is subtle, intentional, and very MSU basketball-specific without being loud.

Hat #2: SNYDER | Vintage Green & White Gruff Sparty

This one leans classic.

• White front panels with a green bill and green back

• Vintage Gruff Sparty embroidered on the front

• Custom Spartan helmet & spear pattern under the bill

  • Intentionally subtle

  • You notice it when you flip the hat, not from across the room

• White adjustable snap closure

• Laser-cut fabric back panels for comfort and breathability

• “Spartans” seam tape on the inside

This hat feels old-school in the best way, while still being modern where it counts.

Hat #3: CASE | Green & Black 3D Spartan Helmet

This one’s a little bolder.

• Green and black colorway

• White 3D embroidered Spartan Helmet on the front

  • Raised embroidery so it sits off the hat slightly

• Greek pattern under the bill in green and black

  • Ties everything together

• Adjustable snap closure

• Laser-cut fabric back panels 

• “Spartans” seam tape inside

This is a clean, aggressive MSU look without going over the top.
